My Mission
My mission is ultimately to make my patient’s and client’s lives better and a little more enjoyable. That comes through different interactions including: physical therapy, strength and conditioning, coaching, writing, telling you a joke (probably a bad one) or any other number of things. All of these things serve the larger goal of making your life a little better after working with me.
My Philosophy
My treatment philosophy as a physical therapist and strength and conditioning specialist looks a little different from traditional PT. My philosophy for treatment is made up of 7 pillars:
- You aren’t frail. I believe that the human body is resilient and that it adapts to the stresses placed upon it, whether good or bad.
- You deserve good education. Our understanding of how the pain experience happens has completely changed in the last 30 years, most providers aren’t aware of this. You deserve to know why things hurt.
- Every individual is different. It is cliché at this point to say “we offer individualized care.” My philosophy on this is not only does everyone have different impairments but everyone has different past experiences, values, and expectations. Treatment for the same condition, with the similar impairments can (and sometimes should) look very different.
- Best practice is not always sexy. I believe the clinical practice should be guided by the most current evidence. The most current evidence doesn’t always support the new sexy treatment techniques.
- Everyone can benefit from more movement. My treatments are as active as possible. There is a place for “passive” treatments which means anything that is done TO the patient, like massage, hot packs…things like that, but active treatment is usually better.
- I don’t “fix” you. This is kind of the culmination of all the above points. Your entire experience with me is geared around helping you, coaching you, mentoring you to get yourself better.
- Life is fun, treatment should be too. PT and training can end up being boring. Professionals get too “professional” and forget to have fun.
Physical Therapy
I earned my Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Rockhurst University in Kansas City, MO. So technically I am Dr. Duhamel…but you can call me Zack. I offer visits in home, at work or at the fitness facility of your choice. If you have any questions about whether I can help you or not, feel free to leave me a message using the contact me page.
Personal Training
I provide in-home personal training services, specializing in the older adult population that wants to continue staying active but I work with any client. I am a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the NSCA, so if you need to get stronger, faster, more powerful, or generally more athletic I can help you by building a targeted plan built around the most current conditioning evidence. For information about personal training pricing and services leave me a message below.
